oh happy day.

After many vulgar posts/comments regarding Zoe Smith's appearance on social networking sites, she fired back with this empowering message.

"...We don’t lift weights in order to look hot, especially for the likes of men like that. What makes them think that we even WANT them to find us attractive? If you do, thanks very much, we’re flattered. But if you don’t, why do you really need to voice this opinion in the first place, and what makes you think we actually give a toss that you, personally, do not find us attractive? What do you want us to do? Shall we stop weightlifting, amend our diet in order to completely get rid of our ‘manly’ muscles, and become housewives in the sheer hope that one day you will look more favourably upon us and we might actually have a shot with you?! Cause you are clearly the kindest, most attractive type of man to grace the earth with your presence.

"Oh but wait, you aren’t. This may be shocking to you, but we actually would rather be attractive to people who aren’t closed-minded and ignorant. Crazy, eh?! We, as any women with an ounce of self-confidence would, prefer our men to be confident enough in themselves to not feel emasculated by the fact that we aren’t weak and feeble.
"  - Zoe Smith, English Weighlifter

start small, think big.

it's always hard getting back into running after a long break.  i delayed my training for two weeks because i couldn't stop hitting the snooze button, but now that i finally made it out the front door... i feel the excitement and energy after every run.  i am getting closer and closer to my goal.

mini tier cakes.

mini tier cakes!!  I had so much fun making these cakes.
helpful tips...  1. spray the pan with baking non-stick spray 2. only fill the cake molds to the top of the third layer 3. let the cakes cool completely before frosting (i put them in the freezer for 5 mins after I took them out of the oven) 3. put a cutting board on top of the pan and flip over (cakes should come out easily) 4. cut off the bottom of each cake to level

glimpses from 7/1-7/15.

marathon.

226 days ago, I ran my first full marathon - 26.2 miles.  the journey, the challenge, both physically and mentally, was amazing.  if your goals don't scare you, they aren't big enough!

training for my second full marathon has commenced.  i will be running the California International Marathon “CIM” again this December.  138 days to go!!!  training will consist of running 5 days a week and body sculpting/pilates 2 to 3 days a week.

last year I was able to beat my goal time by 4 minutes 20 seconds finishing at 4:25:40.  i’m hoping to shed 25 minutes this year.

it will not be easy, but it will definitely be worth it.

glimpses from june 11-30.

while in New Jersey 21 long days in New Jersey.  what an incredible experience.  many days at the courthouse, late nights in the war room, ventured out to some wonderful restaurants and made time to workout in the hotel gym.

back in California  i returned from Jersey the day after my 30th birthday.  spent the next week and a half gardening, devouring my favorite foods, getting pampered at the spa, enjoying time with my friends, date night with my mum, and even indulged in some reading  - a guilty pleasure.
